patient will receive ongoing cholesterol-lowering counseling. Spirometry If you are experiencing shortness of breath, are a smoker, or there is concern you may have asthma, emphysema, or lung disease, we will administer a spirometry test. During the test you will take a deep breath and exhale it as hard and long as you can into the special mouthpiece. This is repeated a number of times to ensure an accurate reading. Results are interpreted by your physician. Anticoagulation Clinic If you are on an anticoagulant, you must have your blood monitored on a monthly basis. Our Point of Care Clinic is managed by a nurse practitioner who will schedule your appointment, perform the appropriate test using a finger stick, and will make medication adjustments as needed. Each patient involved in our clinic receives ongoing educational counseling. Bone Density Testing As we age, our bones may become weaker and thinner. Our nurse practitioners provide bone density testing to detect osteoporosis, or thinning of the bones. The scan is done while you are dressed and takes about 45 minutes. Follow up after the exam includes comprehensive education about the test results, and osteoporosis treatment and prevention. The International Society for Clinical Densitometry recognizes that our staff has participated in the ISCD’s Bone Densitometry Course and has successfully completed the exam. Our participating staff are now referred to as Certified Clinician Densitometrists. CAROTID ARTERY ULTRASOUND This test is used for stroke prevention to evaluate the carotid arteries in your neck. With it your physician can tell if you are at risk from neck artery blockages. These can occur from cholesterol deposits, and blockages often give no symptoms until the actual stroke. ABDOMINAL AORTA ULTRASOUND Abdominal aortic aneurysms occur in people with vascular disease due to atherosclerosis. These aneurysms are an actual bulge in a weakened area of the abdominal aorta, which is the largest artery in the body. They are not unlike an overfilled innertube , and often cause no symptoms until they rupture with devastating consequences. Fortunately, they can be diagnosed in advance with this test. Ambulatory Blood Pressure Testing (ABP) and Holter and Event Monitors For some people, visiting a medical office can raise their blood pressure so some readings we take at our office may not be normal. These monitors allow a more accurate reading of your blood pressure over time in everyday situations. With the ABP, a blood pressure cuff is attached to one arm and a small recording device gathers information over a 24 hour period. For the Holter and Event Monitors, patches are attached to your chest and a small monitor records your heart rate/rhythm. The Holter monitor works through a 24 or 48 hour time frame. The Event monitor can be worn for as many as 30 days. When you experience a change in heart activity you simply call our office and via the phone line the monitor relays information to us. The tests allow us to identify the specific times you experience changes in heart beat. Education and Counseling If you are trying to quit smoking, have nutritional concerns like weight control, or are working through substance abuse, our staff can provide educational materials and will work with you to meet your goals. We’ll provide a variety of information detailing your options and help to design a course you can stick with. Special Services We offer foot and toenail care for those patients with diabetes or other circulatory disorders. Liquid nitrogen-based cryosurgery is performed in our office to treat skin lesions, warts and other skin diseases. We perform comprehensive executive physical exams. We diagnose, treat and provide follow-up care for medical health issues. We are adult primary care physicians for all non-surgical health care. Echocardiograms
This test uses sound waves to create moving pictures of the heart. Our certified sonographers perform the echocardiogram (also called echo test) using the GE Logiq S6 machine which is a high performance imaging system. During the test an instrument is placed on your rib area near the breast bone and it transmits high-frequency sound waves. The echoes from these sound waves are transmitted as electrical impulses which are converted to moving pictures of the heart. We schedule your echo test to be done in the comfort of our office. Your doctor uses the echo test to assess the function of the heart, determine the presence of heart diseases, and to evaluate medical treatments or surgery. |
